Alumni Photo Gallery Book SigningRobert Colwell Book SigningOn April 20, 2006, Pitt Engineering alumnus, Robert Colwell returned to campus to sign copies of his new book, The Pentium Chronicles: The People, Passion and Politics Behind Intel's Landmark Chips. He earned his BSEE from Pitt in 1977 and went on to receive an MSEE and PhD from Carnegie Mellon University. After several years as a CPU architect and hardware design engineer, he joined Intel in 1990 and was soon leading the IA32 Architecture Group. His book describes the challenges behind developing Intel's P6 chip, which has served as the basis for all of Intel's most successful microprocessors since the early 1990s including the Pentium II and III, Celeron, Xeon, and Centrino. His accomplishments led to being named a prestigious Intel Fellow in 1996, and he was inducted in 2006 into the National Academy of Engineering. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Pitt in 2000.
